White Wines
Our only white wine grape for dry wines is the Weissburgunder
(Pinot blanc), which is vinified both with and without new oak.
All of our Weissburgunder is sourced from the southeast slope
of the Salzberg vineyard and thrives on calcareous, shelly sand.
Our premium white “Pannobile weiss” is made completely
from Salzberg Pinot blanc and is fermented and matured in small
oak barrels.
Our Riesling, also called “Weisser Riesling”,
is reserved for making ice wine or Trockenbeerenauslese as the
vintage permits. Beginning with the 2003 vintage we also have
Sauvignon blanc.
Red Wines
As much as we appreciate our white wines, we are predominantly
a red wine producer. Approximately 75% of our vineyards are
devoted to regional varieties such as Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt,
and Blauburgunder (Pinot noir) as well as the international
grapes Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. We harvested Merlot for
the first time from the Ungerberg and Satz vineyards in 2003.
The Blaufränkisch and Zweigelt are vinified in the classic
regional method without new oak. These are fruity, easy-drinking
wines of typical varietal character. Our flagship wine, the “Pannobile
Rot” is selected from the best batches of Zweigelt and
Blaufränkisch and a small portion of Cabernet Sauvignon.
In 1993 we experimentally planted a wine garden with Syrah.
This variety is vinified on its own and fills us with special
pride.
The Ungerberg Blaufränkisch is vinified only in the best
vintages. Its unique character is a reflection of regional
terroir.
