For Zweigelt Altenberg we only use the head end of Altenberg, more precisely the plateau above the hillside, which has a top layer of red gravel. We decided to bottle this wine solo because the iron and mineral content shapes the wine. The usually associated typical character of Zweigelt of cherry fruit, softness and approachability, is lost here. The wine has plenty of tightly woven tannin, in its youth it is very firm, masculine and perhaps somewhat tumultuous.
Storage for several years is absolutely necessary.
